24-010 Cloud's Rest

On a remote property in the Santa Lucia Preserve, Cloud's Rest responds gently to a sloping site with thoughtfully articulated structures that curate distinct, intimate moments.

The clients came to us with a strong commitment to building a home with a low carbon footprint, and excitement about our Carbon Budget Initiative. This project is all electric and takes advantage of regenerative strategies for energy production, heating, and water use.

Site Analysis

A series of pavilions arch gently towards thoughtfully curated views, providing each living space with a unique connection to the site and natural light. The structure reacts sensitively to the land - maintaining the site's natural slope. Heavy stone walls anchor each outdoor space, gracefully dissolving into landscaping as they curve with the earth.

Materiality

A refined and natural palette with highly articulated, crafted, and customized details and an exposed structural system define the home's material sensibilities. St. Helena Cottage stone from Sonoma and weathered teak adorn the exteriors.
