Playworks
A probono project that started close to three years ago, the Playworks office is a space that has undergone various phases and evolved in both its design and execution over the years. Our clients, dedicated to rethinking playtime and providing ‘better recess’ to schools across the country, wanted this office to reflected the fun philosophy of their company.
In phase one, our design team worked with the client to open up their existing workspace and incorporate modern amenities and furniture. Phase two began in 2017 when the office was able to move into a new building. Our client was interested in creating a space that would be playfully professional but also instill a sense of fun and energy in those who enter. Prints and graphics are used to define the office and showcase Playworks’ unique brand of recreation. Wayfinding lines based on the Oakland BART map line the walls and floors and guide visitors through the training area, courtyard, and semi-private offices. An open floor plan encourages collaboration and allows the space to be used not only as a training ground, but also as a center for community events and engagement. As construction continues into this year, be sure to check back for updates and images as this playful, whimsical space comes together!
